Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a gentle treatment that stimulates the natural drainage of the lymph system, a network of organs, vessels and tissues that work together to move fluid (lymph) back into your bloodstream. Your lymphatic system is a vital part of your immune system, protecting you from infection, filtering out waste products and destroying old and abnormal cells your body doesn’t need. It also maintains normal fluid levels in your body and absorbing fats and fat soluble vitamins so they can make their way into your bloodstream.
MLD is used primarily to promote the optimal functioning of the lymphatic vessels that lead to the circulatory system. It is a specialist light-touch therapy that stimulates the flow of lymph around the body. MLD helps relax the sympathetic nervous system, reduces pain and enhances the activity of the immune system. Any client can benefit from lymph drainage as part of a general detoxification program. .

This is a bespoke treatment that will be tailored for your individual needs based on your own circumstances at time of appointment. The techniques of MLD are based upon the principal of stationary circles and strokes that use a minute amount of pressure compared to techniques used in massage. When you have MLD, you feel a gentle pressure. The skin movements are very light, slow, and rhythmic. This helps lymphatic flow and drainage.
You usually lie down to have MLD. But if you have lymphoedema in your head and neck, you might sit up. The number of treatments you have varies from person to person and your personal circumstances.
You might not be able to have MLD if you have an infection or inflammation in the swollen area, a blood clot, heart problems, kidney/liver problems or cancer in the area.

I am trained and qualified in the Vodder method of MLD which involves gentle, repetitive and smoothing movement of the skin to stimulate the lymphatic vessels compared to traditional massage techniques that work on muscles and soft tissues.
